Does your project look like a music magazine? Why? What conventions have you used?
I would very much say that my end product resembles music magazines and to be more precise a metal/rock magazine. The reason for this is because majority of the contents in my magazine, heavily reflect the metal theme.
as you can see on the right from the fonts being big bold and in capital, to the cluttered front cover template. I made sure that every single bit in my magazine made it look like a official magazine. For example adding only one main image onto the front cover, and made sure that the model was giving direct eye contact when taking the images. adding various colors to my front cover, that were mainly red, yellow and black, these are colors that are vibrant and eye grabbing. so i used this combination of bright colors and cluttered scenery to make my magazine resemble a rock magazines. in the end i am very pleased with my work and i think i have achieved on making my magazine look like an official one.
I added page number onto the contents and DPS, and made sure that all the page numbers related to each other. Creating a mast head that very similarly represents rock/ metal. (Even adding a little shadow to the masthead). By making my contents page have the date and issue number, having an old issue on the contents page. Making sure the magazines has more than 70+ pages. Doing all of this on my final product can make me believe that my magazine does look like an actual music magazine.

What analysis of existing products did you do?
When researching about metal magazines there were a variety of choices to choose from, so what I did was I looked at each magazine and looked at their house style and put some ideas down from each different magazine and started to create my own magazines based on the mixture and inspiration of these magazines. I also study the color scheme to the fonts being used, so when I started to make my magazine I already had an idea of what to start with. I noticed that majority of metal magazines have a cluttered layout, this information was very important so I decided to use this cluttered theme on my own.
Does your magazine clearly fit into the music genre?
I think that my magazine is very clear of what genre it is, when it comes to the front cover that has the model wearing an iron maiden shirt, smashing his navy electric guitar into the screen, the viewer will straight away know what kind of genre it is. For the mast head I used bold and sharp font to resemble bitterness, I also used dark color theme; e.g. black, white, yellow and red. Overall I think that my genre is quite obvious.
How have I used models as music artist?
I have made sure that all my models related to the rock theme, by doing this I made them wear dark colors. One on my models on the contents page had bright red hair which is something very common in rock/ metal. Whilst my front covers the model had messy blonde hair which is also common. I made sure that my model was male, so that he could engage the target audience who are male.
How have you used photography, editing and mise en scene?
When taking my pictures I used angles and lighting, the reason why was because I wanted to make my model look big and power so I choose a low angle with strong lighting on the sides ( I also made the model do a metal scream). For my contents page I made my model look angry to relate to the metal theme, I also brightened up his red hair on Photoshop and brightened up his skin. For majority of my models made their hair more vibrant and brightened them up. The type of props I used for my models where a guitar, jean jackets and black clothing.
How have you used layout design?
For my contents layout I used a different style by adding a big image on the top and the bottom with the contents. Then I choose the color scheme of red, white and black. I used quite a few images just to give it the cluttered look.
For my DPS I used red and black as my main theme colors, I also divided the page and put text on one side whilst image on the other.
For my front cover I used one main image with other smaller images around it, I made sure that my front cover was cluttered in text, images and sell lines.

Colour Themes
As you can see the main colour themes that run through my front cover are grey, white, yellow and red. These colours are the colours i choose based on the results of my magazine audience. i made sure that the front cover was colourful so that it can get attention from the audience.
in the contents page the main colours are many shades of red, mixed with white and black. the colors where picked because they are dark and gothic looking. The red stands out from the white background which can catch the attention of the reader.
i decided to tone down the colours on my dps and kept it simple with just red and black, these too are gothic colours ( engage the audience). also the story links to the color theme, its about an ex - band member from a band , i gave it a bloody look to make it seem like she did something very bad.

Front cover
this is the sketch of my front cover, i would like to make my final front cover look similar to this.

this is a digital version of my layout for my front cover.
The image was put through photoshop, and what i did was pale the model up and made the guitar more vibrant.
I added a smashing screen effect to show how angry and metal the model is.
after that i filled in the black box with bright fonts in red, yellow and white
i also added the artists name in white so that it can stand out from the background.
i decided to put the artist name in the middle of the page, i also added an image/poster and red stickers.
i later on added some more news on the side to make my magazine resemble a real one.
i made another stickers that said 20th anniversary of the magazine.
I added a smashing screen effect to show how angry and metal the model is.
i darkened the models shirt and hair,
I added a black box at the top of my image to advertise for free posters in the magazine.
i also added the artists name in white so that it can stand out from the background.
I made some changes by make the artists name in yellow instead of white, then added a red stickers and a white quote line with a broken glass effect.

Double page spread
This is my sketch of my Double page spread, it has one main image on the left and text on the right, like majority of double page spreads.
This is the digital layout for my DPS, you can see that Red means text and the Blue means image.

After putting my image through Photoshop, this is the final outcome. my next step was to add the mast head.
I decided to get my font masthead from a website called 1001 fonts, I choose the font called scream good which related to metal.
I then copied the font on to adobe fireworks, and made 2 copies one in black and one in white. the reason why I decided to do this was to make a shadowy effect on the mast head.
This is the final products for my Mast head. .Then I copied the mast head from adobe fireworks onto Microsoft PowerPoint.
This picture shows my masthead and my photograph together. the next step was to make a title.
I went back on the 1001 fonts, to get a font for my title. after this i opened the font onto fireworks and made the fill of the font into red.
this picture shows the website where i got my font for "LIA KILLS", for the "S" i also used fireworks and also made the fill red.
this is the photo of the mast head and title put together, the next step was for me to make a quote.
i used the same process that i used on the masthead and title on the quote. but i made two copies of the quote one in black and one in grey, so it could create a shadowy effect. i did this using office, i also made the word "LIGHT" a pale grey and the word "DARK" in black.
This is the picture of the pull quote, title and masthead, the next step was to add some text, i choose the same website but decided to use the color white, so it can stand out on the black background.
i decided to change my DPS a bit my changing the style and adding a police tape on the side to emphasize how rebellious my model is.
in this photo i decided to move the Elementz logo over to the right hand corner.
i added another image, that was meant to be her other ex - band member and made it in black and white. i chaned the colour of the text because i though that there was too much red in the DPS. I also used another image that had black eyeliner.( i removed the police tape).

i decided to remove the image of the ex band member and put back the police tape. i changed the color of the text into red and moved around the other text and headlines.
This is my final Double Page Spread.
This is my final products for DPS , i made the theme red, white and black. i put the models name underneath her neck to make it look like her neck in bleeding in a way. i moved over the elementz mast head over to the left and decreased it's size.on the left page i used the title BAD CHILD and increased the size, on top of the image i added at little quote by the artist, and made it seem a bit scarier.
i also added little little twitter and instagram.
i decided to simplify my layout, because some metal magazines have simple layouts. so this is my final dps.

Contents Page
This here is a sketch of my contents page, i added 1 big images, 2 small images.
this is a digital sketch of what i roughly wanted my contents page to look like.
The blue represents images and the Red means text.

here is my mast head for my magazine i decided to start off with the masthead and build on afterwards.
i started of with an image of a rock band i then later added other fonts to make it look like a concert poster.
I transformed the image into a competition poster by adding dates, websites and cities.
i later expanded my contents page into the layout that i drew. i then started out making the contents page by making the issue date and everything else.
i started adding text onto the contents page to make it more complete.
i made this little magazine front cover issue to add in the editors notes box.
This is my final product of my contents page. i added stickers and pins into the contents page to give it a worn out look. i made some changes to the editors image i though to follow the black, white and red theme i decided to give the image some colour.
This is the final product of my contents page
